The 11,104-Word Interview.

EXCERPT FROM ‘THE WES ANDERSON COLLECTION’ By Matt Zoller Seitiz, Moonrise Kingdom, Pg 295.

MZS: I guess you’re at the point now where you’ve worked with certain core people for so long that you don’t have to do a whole lot of explaining and justification when you make a request like this. “I want a giant tree house that appears like its on one little narrow strand of tree, and I want it to look like it’s fifty feet high.” And they’re like, “OK Wes, that’ll take about a week.”

Wes Anderson: Well, the tree house has to be designed and so does the tree, in fact! There’s a process but we have a great production designer named Adam Stockhausen who I have worked with in various ways for years. The core people that’s very valuable. Our key grip, Sanjay Sami, for example, who worked on The Darjeeling Limited. We had to go to some strange lengths to get a visa for him to come to work in America. We had Owen and Scott Rudin and Adrien Brody and Bob Yeoman and Jasan and everybody petition the immigration department and so on, but then we got it. We got Sanjay Sami legalized for it. And the union said yes, too.
